Looking for an old RTS

Hey, i've been thinking about going back to the good old days and playing some old games, i remember there was this RTS game, you go back to like the mythology days, and build an empire.... you start off just trying to be a town and eventually get an army and stuff like that.... but what you did is set up roadways, and people can come to you town and set up their home, they first start off poor and live in a tent, and as their family grows and they get jobs their houses upgrade, to like tin shaks, eventually to good houses, depending on how prosperouse each house is you can see it go up and down.... they had the good old olive orchards, and grape picking... and all of that.... you could build shrines to the different gods, and ya....... this was way way back so i dont remember too much else.... but the thing i remember the most is the houses.... i dont know if anyone knows what im talking about..... but if you do.... or if you know of other games like this let me know..... i really wanna play some classics.... maybe some new ones too....

 

think i figured it out..... Caesar 3.... is it free yet? can anyone find it free?

 

It sound like your talking about age of empires.

 

Yep Caesar II/III. Unfortunanently not free yet sorry, you can find it at a good price at bargain bins though, about 4.99.

It shouldn't be hard to find, but it won't be free.

I think Sierra (or maybe Atari) make it.

Anyone remeber Legacy Of Time, and Atalantis: The lost tales? They were great games.

 

Im definitely a fan of the C&C games although they arent as in-depth as the games ur talking about, just build and kill pretty much lol. But yeah they are really cheap. The AOE games are gettin up there in age as well, along with StarCraft (freakin awesome game, just started playing again) and thay are also very cheap. Have fun dude.

 

Not very old, old...but ancient in the video game world, I still play Rise of Nations, Age of Mythology and AOE. RON is the best out of that pick though.

know it's personal preference, but I've never seen the attraction in RTS games.

I need realistic blood and guts to make me enjoy the game, so it's FPS's for me, and the more realistic and bloody, the better.

 

Though, I agree with this. I only run my FPS'ers when I get upset over some stupid thing. Take my aggresion on the game itself.

Could be Knights and Merchants though, which is free. Either way some of my friends who wernt even into PC's played this till the early hours of the morning so must be good.

 

It also sounds like it could be Civilization. Great Game. Don't know if it's free or not, but I'm sure you could find it on the internet somewhere for like $10 or less. Ebay maybe.

 

After reading his question some more it maybe caesar 1,2 or 3.

The game is Ceasar 3 most definately. I remember playing it and starting up all good until my town just went to the shits. I had the demo. Try the demo, its really good. Gives you a good feel of the game but doesn't last long. Its like that simcity 2000 demo where after 30 minutes the disasters would just come like crazy and your town would be blown apart by that alien spaceschip. And simtower, that was another awsome game. I never got to 5 star cause they have a limit on the amount of elevators you can have so there are huge lines in the morning and everyone moves out and my hotel goes to the shits.

 

My mistake. It's not freeware, it's abandonware, not sure if thats legal or not. Still, google "Knights and Merchants abandonware download" and you should find it. Apologies.

ps. Not sure if that graphics card of yours will run it though

 

u know? there is a game like caesar III but in Egypt, i never played it but looks very similar. cant remember the name though.
