Looking for help with avi movies

Ok, unlike mpg files you can't open a avi file untill it is done downloading since i'm using 56k thats a pain. I used to have a program where I could load the avi file in it, it would do something then I could view it when it was half finished. It's late not sure if this made any sense but does anyone know where I can get something like this?

 

first of all, what downloading program are u using? is it a p2p filesharing network, such as kazaa or morpheus? if so, i would suggest google searching for Kazaa Lite. download it, if they try to charge, pay it or, keep looking there are free versions out there. Kazaa lite comes with a nifty lil program called "Avi Preview" with this you can view your videos as they download....and...my friend...i am sorry for the predicament you are in..56k.....ahhh i remember those days...sorry lol getting all nostalgic on ya. ok, well hope that helps.

 

I have tried and found out that BSPlayer, mostly available along with K-Lite Codec Pack can play incomplete AVI files. If you are downloading the file using FlashGet, you will notice that it downloads the file in many parts. In that case you'll only see the first part of the file that Flashget is downloading.
