Looking for HTML preveiw/editor

Im looking for something that i can use to lets say take the source of a page, paste it into the program, and edit little things and mistakes in the coding while seeing the results. idealy, id be able to edit on one side of the screen, and see the changes on teh other side, but im not sure if there is somehting like that. if not, then just something with a good quick preview. i guess what im asking for is a good reliable free html editor with those features. im not doing any really complex stuff, so it dosent have to have all sorts of bells and whisltes. thanks

 

A simple thing to do is to use the composer in Netscape Navigator. You can see the regular screen as well as the HTML. It is pretty basic, and does not give you room to move around, but it works.

Numerous HTML editors do that. HomeSite/Dreamweaver, 1st Page 2000 (old but good, and still free), CoffeCup HTML (I like this one, but it's a tad expensive). I'm not sure if HTMLKit does or not (I could never get through the interface to use the thing, but a lot of people swear by it).

Peronally, I prefer Araneae or professional general text editors like UltraEdit and jEdit, but none of those offer split screening with real-time HTML rendering.

 

Sort of side topic to this. The webmaster extension for FireFox is a must have if you use FF and design pages. The real-time CSS ability is awesome!!

 

Definitely AceHTML. It does exactly what you described and comes with Free Code such as buttons and stuff.

 

I'll second that. Web Developer is a great extention.
