my D-Link is not connecting to the internet although the lights are lit up and I have tried several times to reset but to no avail no luck. So it's time for a new one. This one was my son's and I have no idea what to get. Any suggestions are welcomed.

I've been using a Linksys wireless N router for a few years now and have been very happy with it's operation.

My son just recently bought one - I think it's the WRT120N. Very nice - easy set-up, and the Network Magic software that comes with it rocks! Seems very intuitive when adding devices and such. Too soon to know how well it will perform over time, but if it's anything like mine it should be fine.

Did you try a firmware update on the router?
Also, I have had good luck with Linksys products. Just got a WRT320N for the house to replace an older WRT54G that finally kicked the bucket on the wireless side.

Do I down load the firmware first, then hook it up? Never messed with it as my son hooked it up when he stayed here. didn't have any probs until the other day when power flickered several times then went off for a few hrs. I know I blew the power transformer box and replaced it with a RCA universal. Got green lights but not connecting.

Yes, you'd DL the firmware file and then install from your router configuration page.
What model and version of router do you have?
Can you access the router config? (DLink I believe uses an IP of 192.168.0.1 for their routers.)
Also, have you tried changing cables from the modem to router?
I'm assuming you are direct connecting the comp to the modem to get access now.

How do I get a config page?
DI-624 but it is obsolete now.(since 2007 the d link site said)
    When I put in the Ip it comes up with this;

    The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    Changed all wires around
    You assume correct

Click on Support Resources tab and pick Rev that applies.
(Link at bottom of this tab can tell you how to determine what revision.)
Manual, Firmware and Knowledge Base on this product is available once you get the correct version.

I'm hitting the sack now so I'll check back in AM.

bigtrucks, I don't think there is a problem with the router. Since your computer can not get to the router set up page, the router isn't "seeing" your computer. This happened when the power went out.
Unplug the router for at least a minute. Then plug it in and see if when you type 192.168.0.1 you can get to the router set up page. If you can, chances are good that you can also get on the internet because the router is now talking to your computer.

Hey plodr, thanks for the suggestion. Did it several times even changed out the wires just in case they were bad and still got the same results. I unplugged it even longer but to no avail the same. There are green lights lit up just as if it was working properly but I just can't access the web. The internet window opens but tells me it can't find what ever address I input into the address bar. So in a sense it is working just not getting or receiving a message some where.

    I'll recap here.
    You've verified cables are good.
The reset button has been held in a minimum of 10 seconds per manual. (Some posts suggest holding in for 20 or 30 seconds to restore to defaults.)
Have you tried a different port to connect the cable from the router to the comp? (Port at back of router may have been blown. There are 4.)
Tried an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew from the command line while hooked up to the router?
If all this fails, I believe you need to go shopping.

well did the config several times Once while connected to router(top)
and the second (bottom) while direct connect from modem to pc
    config ip-renew.jpg
So I guess it's time to hit the garage to find the other router my son has that is packed in a box:eek If all else I will do the store shopping. :(
    Thanks for the help.

Connect your computer directly to the modem and make sure you can get on the internet. Possibilities that come to mind are: the modem might be the problem or the ethernet card in the computer may have died.
We want to be sure we are fixing the proper item. ;)

If you connect your computer directly to the modem and can't get on the internet, then something is blocking you on your computer.

That's the only way I can connect is by way of the modem. When I plug by way of the router it says it can't find the address. The desk top is the only pc I can use which is no biggy until I get into the garage and find the other router. I just can't use my lap until then. I think I'll survive.:-D Funny thing is I just spent a bundle on a new HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless so that when I'm on my lap else where in the home I can print or save things to it plus do my pics so I don't load my pc's down. Thanks.
