Looking for options from high ping.

Hello, I am looking for options for dealing with high ping. I know what my problem is. Sadly it is my brother, he is the kind of fool who will willing spend himself into debt over yu-gi-oh cards. He is addicted to downloading this or that and he CANNOT moderate his downloading. I know it is him since if he has for some reason shut off his computer, ping is rarely a problem. I have questioned him about his downloading, but nothing changes.

Is there any other methods to reduce ping by with out shutting off his downloading or uploading?

 

Yes, there are, but I or anyone else helping you on that will need the structure of your network, I mean, does it go into a router, does it go in your pc and you reroute to him via crosscable etc.

 

The system in place uses a router connected to my pc. My brothers pc is also connected to the router using a cable. He also has a laptop which is wireless which he can use to download with as well. It appears he uses the pc to download.

 

The more people using the modem the more your ping will go up, downloading from another computer makes it even higher. the best thing to do would be to close as many programs running in the background as possibe. To do this go to your task manager and go to processes and close everthing that isnt labled with .exe or sysyem processes. it will also help if you clear your internet cache and temp. internet files go to tools at the top of your browser and click internet options delete files and cookies. This should help reduce ping some. You can also lower your graphics i nthe game and in properties.
