    Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good PCMCIA External CD-ROM drive that is bootable to reinstall XP on a laptop with no drives. All suggestions are appreciated and welcome. Thanks!

before you buy one. check to see if your bios supports booting from pcmcia. i doubt it does, but its worth a check

    Dan,

It does. If I hit F12 it gives me a boot selection for HDD, CD, PCMCIA, Floppy or what looks like a Network connection. Thanks for checking, though.

Actually, ideally, I'd like to make my removable PCMCIA 2gb HDD into a Windows XP disk and just install it from there. A while back, someone put instructions on how to do this in one these message forums, but I can't find it anymore. I've already copied a (legitimate) Windows XP Full Install disc onto the drive, but when I attempt to boot to it, it gives me a "Insert System Disk and Press Any Key" message and does nothing else. If anyone knows a way to make this drive bootable and make it possible to install XP off it, that info would also be a great help. Thanks!
