hey all, just wondering if anyone here has some tips on some good software to manage my large mp3 library (25,000+ files) .
I use Musicmatch Jukebox, but it's was bought by yahoo a while ago, and they incorporated some of it into their own yahoo jukebox, but it's a piece of junk now. Any one know of a good program (preferably like musicmatch) that is good for managing mp3's locally and on a home network. I've tried Winamp, Media Monkey, Real Player, and a few others, and I haven't found one that doesnt get real sluggish, especially dealing with files on a home network...I still have an old version of musicmatch, but It's out of date and doesn't play well with Vista....I you do use some of the programs i've already listed, maybe you could give me some tips on making them run better. Thanks!

    Hi

Give Songbird the OpenSource iTunes clone a whirl, still a work in progress but works good, not used it personally in a network enviroment.

What about WMP11 and its Media Connect option? Tools > Library > Configure Sharing.

thanks for the idea, i will look into it.

I actually use itunes and wmp, not so much the sharing, cause i just add the files from the network, but i'm not too keen on how both handle files in their library. Itunes doesn't do a good job with removing duplicates, and being able to see actual file locations. Same with wmp, it's not very good with handling the actual files themselves. I like to rename my files, when I get them,to: Artist - Album Name - Track # - Title. Musicmatch seemed to be the best at doing all of that, including track tags, and renaming, and even being able to look up multiple track tags efficiently. thanks again for your suggestion. I will tinker more with them to see if i start to like them more:)

I have a rather large library (126,000+ mp3s.) When it grows to that size, winamp chokes, jetaudio chokes, aimp chokes. Believe it or not but windows media player 10 works (but have to install it before sp3.) But my favorite (and lightest weight) is Foobar2000.

Actually no, my friend is a DJ at a major radio station, I know, I know still not legal but you should hear the stories he tells about what goes on there.

fyi, songbird is up to v 1.2...

I had issues with that version (0.5) running in windows 7 (i think it's aero that's causing the crashing) , but it seems the newer one is working.

Never really ended up using Songbird alot as it doesnt support my iPhone and iPod Touch yet, but will give the new 1.2 Branch build a whirl, but as the iPhone and touch has different file setup to the others likely not but worth a go.

I had to get down and geeky for my 100+ gigs of MP3's. I have been running an MP3 server for three years in a location that does not have internet access on a regular basis. None of the canned programs kept them from scrambling tracks. I just keep track of things in XP and share read only.
