Hi, I am running Win XP with Norton 2004 AV and Norton 2004 Firewall(seperate packages). My subscription is running our in early August and I understand that to upgrade to the 2005 editions I must go to Norton Internet Security. My limited research indicated this is a memory hog and can cause many potential conflicts, especially with Microsoft Updates. Is the Symantec AV Corporate edition any better, and does it have Firewall protection? I guess my rambling on can be summed up......can someone recommend a good Av/ Firewall. I am not wireless but am considering getting a wireless router. Is this more secure??
    Thanks

SAV CE is a decent product and you can also get Client Security from Symantec. SAV 10.0 Licence + 1 yr support is $99.00 and Client Security 3.0 License + 1 yr support is $66.70.

Unless your looking for Corporate AV+Security solutions; I would recommend you check out these:

For Anti-Virus I recommend either one of these:
    Avast! Home Edition
    AVG Free Edition

For Firewall I recommend either one of these:
    Sygate Personal Firewall Free
    ZoneAlarm Free

I am running AVAST! and Sygate; and have been very pleased with the performance of both applications.

I would definatly go with Shadows recomendations as those to apps work very well, sad thing about Norton is that they are trying to do too much, rather than settle on being a AV company, the NIS products install all sorts of services and startups that slow some PCs down, NOW the corp or enterprise solutions from Symantec are good as they just concentrate on AV protection.

but better and free solutions are as Shadow said Avast and Sygate ( with Outpost also a viable option http://www.majorgeeks.com/Outpost_Firewall_Free_d1056.html )

Avast and Zone Alarm free, both work for me. Some like AVG over Avast, some like Sygate over Zone Alarm. Your choice. All 4 are well recommended here, any combination of these 4 work well. Up to you, and what combo you are most comfortable with. Bazza

Thanks to all who have replied!!! I have never asked a question on this site that was not answered. I now have four good choices to choose and combine and hopefully protect this PC.
    Thanks Again

I used to use Avast and Sygate but just needed better protection. Then switched to a paid av and firewall. Now i use NOD32 and Outpost Firewall.

Both paid programs also come highly recommended. Depend, I guess, whether you want free, or not. Bazza

Also most paid av's do have better detection and protection againest viruses etc then a free av.

They use the same scan engines, so I don't know how it would be better. You get support for paid versions, no support for unpaid versions. That's the difference.

Some paid av's also have more options to it ex: BitDefender Free which has demand scanning only and BitDefender Pro/Standard have demand/real time scanning. But then everything is mostly the same except support as you posted ;)
