Looking for the best battery for my laptop

    Hello all,

I've recently bought Asus X54HY laptop. It suits me well, but there's one problem - the battery is only 4 cell - 14.4 volts & 2600mAh - that's only 37 watt-hours. I wonder, what's the most powerful li-ion battery for this model? I don't care about weight issues, or whether the new battery is bulkier, as long as it fits. The voltage is pretty good, I guess. I'm just looking for the max cells and amps.

I'd also like to know what's the best way to treat a new battery. I haven't used it yet. I should probably charge it fully, then completely discharge, repeating this cycle at least twice, right? Does continuing to charge your battery when it's at 100 percent capacity hurt it at all? Or should I unplug the AC adapter when it gets fully charged? Would it prolong the life-span of the battery? Thanks for helping.

I looked up "X54HY" on Amazon. It doesn't appear any aftermarket batteries are currently available for your model.

Hopefully some will be available soon.

You need to take your old battery out and find the model number written on the battery then search for the largest capacity battery at your chosen vendor, they usually use the same battery for different models.

The best way to treat a new battery is just to use it,lithium batteries don't suffer from memory effects of older nicad batteries, charging it fully then fully discharging it will shorten its lifespan and can even damage it,the battery stops charging when it reaches 100% so there is no negative effect.

Heat is the biggest enemy of laptop batteries,if your using your laptop for heavy sessions and its getting excessively hot the heat will shorten the life of the battery so if you are doing some video or CPU intensive tasks its better to leave it plugged in so the laptop only has the heat from the cpu and video card to deal with, some people even remove the battery completely if doing such tasks which I guess is the only time to remove the battery during general use but that's a little excessive IMO and hinders a laptops convenience.

    Hi,

See if you can find the manual for your laptop. Running a new battery down per the maker's instructions tell the Battery automatatic circuits where 100% and 0% lie. If you are getting good times don't bother with it. When you are near an AC outlet use it. Modern Laptop chargeing circuits are intellegent and work correctly. They won't hurt your battery.

    Good Luck, Jim
