    Hi,
Been all over the 'net looking for a power cord and adapter guess you would call it a charger for a Sony Vaio laptop. Model number VGN-NS19OJ. So far no luck and Sony no longer supports/makes these.

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

See this Sony page which tells you who the two authorised dealers for spare parts are.
    https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-accessories.pl?mdl=VGNNS190J
The first link to encompass does have an adapter/charger for your model. The second link for Union was rubbish - wouldn't do any search that was relevant but they do have a free phone number.
Amazon also have adapters for the Sony Vaio .
So unsure how your internet search didn't find anything.

I have had 100% success with my automatic universal laptop power adapter. Mine is similar to that one and I keep it my tool kit for house calls. I have used it successfully on Toshiba, Dell, Acer, ASUS, Sony, HP and other notebooks.

Thanks for the info MaxTurner. I visited the links you suggested and I see that the Sony authorized dealer site sells the item for about 80 bucks. Way more than I want to pay. I did go to that site but never did get to the item pages so thanks again. The link you provided for Amazon is a link to Walmart.com and it is for Sony cameras. I knew if I came here I would get some great direction and ideas.

Thanks for your reply Digerati. I may go ahead and purchase the adapter you suggested. I just wish it listed the model number I am looking for. I am not really good at understanding voltages and all that stuff. If I don't find one on Amazon that lists the exact model number. I am going to guess that this laptop is a little more than 10 years old because the original os is Windows Vista. It's not mine. A friend asked me to unlock it for her and clean it up. It is deader than a doornail. I am wondering if it will even charge the battery. She may have to buy a new battery given the age and that it was completely drained. See how much I know about electronic stuff?

I never posted a link to Amazon but when you go to Amazon and do a search for an Adapter for your exact model it does sell them and much cheaper than the Sony authorised dealer.
You must be referring to Digerati's post #3 and that is an Amazon link and not a Walmart link.

I am referring to the post you made that mentioned Amazon and the Sony name is a link. It links to Walmart. That is what I am referring to. I will check out amazon again. I know, the prices are ridiculous for the charger at the authorized site.

Yes I mentioned Amazon but posted no link to it. No one has sent you a Walmart link that I can see. The Sony link doesn't lead to Walmart either so if it does for you on your system you have some problem. Digerati's link goes successfully to Amazon.
If you had done a simple internet search for 'Sony Vaio NS19OJ Adapter USA Prices' at the beginning you would have found Amazon, New Egg and a whole host of sellers, selling them for a lot less than the official Sony distributor. Simple.
Amazon will sell one including delivery for $24!!!

No worries. If you look at the original power supply, it will list the "output" voltage. An exact replacement must be the same voltage.

The next concern is the plug that connects to the notebook. It must be the same size and polarity. There should be a small image molded into the charger that shows the polarity similar to these:

With the automatic universal adapter, all you have to do is make sure you have the correct "tip" (the connector or plug that plugs into the notebook). The adapter will set the polarity and voltage for you.

The last value is the current. You should make sure it is at least equal to or greater than the original value. More is fine but less will greatly increase charging time, may not power the notebook and charge the battery at the same time and may cause the charger to get too warm. This value will also be molded on the original power supply/charger and shown in amperes or milliamperes such as 4.5A or 4500mA. Again, you will not have to worry about this with the automatic universal.

The exact Sony approved adapter for that Sony Vaio model (VGP - AC1V19) is available on Amazon USA for $24, $12 less than the universal adapter.
