Looking for WIN98SE

Is there anyone who would like to lend, rent or sell me a copy of Win98SE, either original or upgrade, that I can use so I can download the drivers for the flash drive I bought. I can mail it back. Please let me know.

As I remember it, you need the drivers, as supplied by the USB flash drive people.
I think W98SE supports USB, but the drivers need to come separately.
At least that has been my experience.

Every USB stick I have bought came with separate W98SE drivers.
I suggest that you contact the store where you bought it from, the manufacturer's website, or ring them.

you're right about the drivers. It's the SE that has been the problem. The copy of Win98 I'm working with was never upgraded to SE, so it wouldn't accept the drivers. I think once I upgradei it, it will be no problem to download the drivers.

If you are using Win98, you will probably find that you won't be able to upgrade to 98SE with a standard 98SE install disc. You will need the 98SE upgrade disc.
And you are right 98 had no USB support, where 98SE does, but you will still need the drivers.
I hope it's an upgrade disc that hammer1 is sending, they are nigh on impossible to find (well I couldn't find one anyway).
Option 2 is to upgrade to W2K.

Yes you can. I assume you mean after a reformat etc.

 

Installing a new operating system requires a reformat? That would certainly defeat the purpose! lol

Well you can install over the top with XP but I'm unsure with 98SE. I don't think it will want to let you. Worth a try, but you will probably have to reinstall applications again.

The whole point of this was to backup/transfer data, right? Did you ever report how much data we were talking about?

Are you on a high speed connection with this Win98 machine?

I am pretty sure that you have a digital camera, as I recall you posting a photo. Do you use this camera on your Win98 system?

If so, how does it recognize it? Could it be used to store the files in question?

Win98 had USB support, didn't it. Heck, the later release of Win95 had USB support. Is it support for USB Mass Storage that Win98 is lacking?

I haven't tried the digital camera. I could still try that.
It doesn't recognize the flash drive. We tried putting everything on a zip drive, which was no problem, but the zip drive wasn't recognized by the XP computer.
Strange to have so many problems.
