. . . . an older version of FixIEDef.exe because the newer one doesn't always run just right; it locks up and/or crashes on maybe 1 out of every 5 or 6 PCs I run it on. I had the older version of it and never had any problems with it, but my thumb drive died :)cry) and I lost it (and tons of other stuff). All I seem to find via Google is the new one with the syringe icon. The older version had a different icon. I don't remember what it was, but it wasn't the syringe.

    Thanks!

You should be using the newest version of FixIEDef. As it is constantly being updated to target new variants of the IE Defender family of Trojans, which is no less than 10 new variants in the last 5 days. New versions also contain bug fixes as well as definition updates.

If you are/were having problems with FixIEDef, then you should have been reporting those using the Bug Tracker on my site.

Honestly, I've only used FixIEDef a few times, and it's been about 5 months (maybe 6) since I first used it. At that time, there was a version w/o the syringe icon and it worked like a charm. About a month or two after that, I had a need to use it again, and figured I'd see if a new one was available (I still had the old one on my thumb drive). There was a newer version (with the syringe icon), but the PC I was using it on would blue screen when I used it; I tried the older one and it worked great. Yesterday I had the need to use FixIEDef again. My thumb drive took a big crap so I had neither the older release, or the newer one. I did find many different versions by Googling (from 1.49 up thru 1.6x?). I ended up using 1.6.1 (I think? Maybe it was 1.6.10?) which I found a link for here at MG in an archived forum thread. It worked GREAT!!! I may have jumped the gun in thinking I needed an older version; I was just thinking back to that day when the newer one (at that time) would crash the PC.... anyway.... what is the newest version available? And where is the newest version always[/] available? When I was Googling, I came across MANY very questionable "sources" for the app listed in the Google search results and I was a bit wary of downloading it from a site I wasn't familiar with. I usually ONLY download my AV/AS/AM tools from MajorGeeks.
    How about a link? ;)

    THANKS!

FixIEDef v1.6 with a file version of 1.6.10.6137 is the latest version, and should be the only version available anywhere. Always use the latest version of FixIEDef, as it will contain definition updates, bug fixes, new features, and improvements.

The bug you are taling about took me some time to locate and fix.

The official FixIEDef web page is http://www.malwareteks.com/FixIEDef.php and if you find that FixIEDef is being offered for download anywhere other than the mirrors listed on the official webpage, http://www.malwareteks.com/FixIEDef.php#Download, I want to know; so, that I can take appropriate action.

Bugs in FixIEDef should be reported in the Bug Tracker, http://bugtracker.malwareteks.com/.

A new version of FIxIEDef should be finished and ready for release tonight.

I have considered asking CP & MA if they would mirror FixIEDef here a MGs. Because the tool recieves several updates each week, sometimes as many a 5 updates in single day, I decided against it.

dlb, sounds to me that this is not the kind of app you just store on a usb drive for use at a later time. You need to at the least plug the usb in at home and update the thing before you go out. If that's not possible, perhaps it would be a good idea for Shadow Puter Dude to make a portable version for that purpose. Since its obvious to me that it almost has more of a use from a usb drive than from the PC. If someones PC is down from malware you don't really want to connect to the net at all, let alone for downloading and attempting to install FixIEDef (which the infection may try to stop anyhow). USB seems to me the way to go.
Many times these types of programs are portable without meaning to be, that is you might be able to keep the main program on your PC, auto updated, and when you go out, copy the directory to the usb drive to be run from there fully updated. Or you could also update it from a laptop while your on the road.

FixIEDef is a single stand-alone executable, with no runtime dependencies. Can't get anymore portable than that.

Thanks 'puter dude! If you just Google it, you'll see it for download all over the freekin place. At least it looked that way to me a few days ago. But now I have the legit link and I'll add it to my list of kick-a** links.
    From Appzalien:
:confused As 'puter dude said: it doesn't get any more portable than FixIEdef.exe. I first used it about 6mo ago and it has always been a stand-alone .exe (it it is freekin' excellent for certain infections).
@ Bazza: I use FileHippo almost daily, and I did look for FixIEDef there, but no dice. FileHippo is an excellent resource for older versions of apps (like uTorrent 1.6.1 ;) )

    Thanks again guys!
