Looking to learn a web language

Hello, I am an avid programmer and I know HTML but I'm looking for a more powerful web language such as asp or PHP that can make a script for me or something that is simple to use. For example, one of the things I want to do is make a web page that will be like an online album. Where I can have a menu and select whether I want to play a song, download a song, or upload a song onto my webpage for further usage. I'm sure that PHP can do this and I'm looking to learn a new language. Since its the summer I have a lot of time to learn. Please supply me with advice for making online scripts and web pages such as this one. And please supply me with information on what is a good place to learn. Thanx a whole lot.

i think mySQL is the next logical step

 

how hard is it to learn and what are the stuff you mainly use to make things with it?

 

MySQL is not a language. It's a database system. If you want to learn SQL, that would be required reading for dynamic websites.

PHP is a runtime scripting language as is ASP. They are cousins. The most powerful web language out there right now is ASP.NET.

 

I'm not sure if I want to learn use SQL, I want to learn a language like PHP. My bet is that I will end up learning PHP but I want to know more about its functions and what it can do before I start.

 

Learning PHP without learning SQL is like learning how to drive without using a car. You will find that SQL is a must if you want to develop anything of significant power.

it has good basics that you can build from. This is just scratching the surface.. but it will enable you to do what you need to do.

just so you know.. PHP isn't my gig.. I do ASP.. so if you use PHP, someone else will have to help you, but I can help with the SQL.

Alright so I'm getting the drift of MySQL and how it functions Kodo. Is there like an ebook or an adobe file I can download that will show me how to program in PHP when I'm ready. I thought I would ask ahead just to get it out of the way. Also, a link to a website or something would be cool. Thanx for the help.
