Looking to upgrade my cpu Heatsink/Fan

I've got a ECS P4M800PRO motherboard with a P4 2.66GHz LGA775 cpu. Added a side case fan blowing directly over the cpu, mounted on the outside so it doesn't croud the inside of the case. A brand new 80mm 32cfm fan to the bottom front for intake. A manually variable exaust fan just under the power supply.

I've overclocked the CPU to 3.00GHz and temps seem to be fine at 90*f and below 100*f under load. Through my temps seam fine atm, before I added the side fan, the cpu would overheat during the hot summer days. Maybe the addition of the side fan is/was enough to remidy the overheating problem, but I'm still wanting to upgrade the stock cpu heatsink/fan.

Considering going fanless to cut some of the noise. If that's not a viable solution, I would like to get something running below 23ishdBA. Willing to spend up to about $40.oo. Any recommendations? Think I covered any information needed to come up with some ideas.

    Thanks in advance! :D

Have to agree that is a decent heatsink, noise will always be an issue with aircooling the quite altenative is H20 but a lot more exxy.

Here is another heatsink array name that keeps popping up, personally I know nothing about them but their name keeps appearing on some of the more decent technical review sites and it has the dBA (23.5) and probably price range you are looking at:

If you do a google on Scythe you will find some good reviews. I have industrial deafness (15% impairment in the left ear) so noise aint too much of a prob for me if you wanna push the system.

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is great for the money. Provantage.com has had one of the best prices for a while now.

Ive got the Akasa Evo120 on my cpu, used to have it on a p4 prescott, n now its on a athlon 3500+ Very quiet, its only as noisey as the Akasa amber 120mm fan because thats what it uses! lol 18dba i think if im correct? can slow it rite down too with variable controller.

Not the sexiest looking one and is quite big, but does the job, and if ur cpu socket is placed correctly, it'l be parralell to your rear case fan so all the hot air gets taken out immediatley.

    Just doing some research this morning and I came across this brand for case fans, SilenX they supply a 120mm fan that can do 72CFM@14dBL. That is at least 1/3 higher airflow at 1/3 less noise than many other high-end fans, a bit exy but worth it is noise is an issue imho;

Don't know if you can get them in your part of the world but I can in Australia (normally a technology backwater).

That's almost 1/3 more quite than the fan I bought for the side of my case (which is doing very well keeping my cpu temps down). I ended up getting this Evercool fan, which is a bit noisy but not unbarable. I'm thinking the few extra dollars for only 14db is quite worth it. Unfortunately, the smaller fans that would fit my current heatsink don't have the higher cfm, but at 14db if you're not having heat issues, it's NICE!

    Thanks Bold Eagle,
Always appreciate getting a heads up on the good stuffs! :D

Well If your still looking.... Thermal Big Typhoon is nice....great for cooling. Rated very high in PC Magazine...Maybe even number 1.

    I'm running:
    -E6400 2.13GHz Overclocked to 3.15GHz and 3.60GHz in WinXP
-CPU cooled by a Big typhoon (Thermaltake)
    -2 GB's of CorsairXMS2 EPP DDR2 4-4-4-12 over 1000MHz but i forget what it is
    -Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi
-XFX(Best brand IMO) 7950 GT Xtreme version Overclocked -> memory 1400 to 1580 and core 570 to 640
-Video Card cooled by a dedicated Thermaltake Water cooler unit.(low setting for less noise.)
-74 GB WD Raptor, 80 GB 2nd HD
-Audigy Sound because onboard is SHITTY!
-Memorex 16x DVD+/-RW blah blah who cares
    -Thermaltake TR2-500 watt
-Shure E3G earbuds for "gaming." They do make you feel like your actually the guy shooting the gun.
-Oh and for gaming I have a 27-inch Widescreen from Viewsonic. Pretty nice in games but only capable of 1280x720 :(
-And lastly an Antec Case that I just LOVE because it's amazing to work in.
    -Check her out.
-Also, I ALWAYS run with my computer case closed. never open...just for pics.

Is the Big Typhoons fan manually adjusted? I actrually prefer it, since the computer does a crappy job of knowing when to speed up and slow down my fans

Have also been looking at graphic card cooling... Not sure how these really stack up as far as functionallity vs pricing.

The Arctic Cooling Accerlo X2 is only compatible with the ATI x1800 and the x1900. Very nice cooler, but doesn't fit my x850. :(

Looking over the Zalman VF900... Jesus, you'd think I was building a piano.
