looking to upgrade...

Hey guys Im looking to add another 512 mb of RAM to my computer. My question is do I need to buy a specific brand or does generally any brand work with any computer?

 

generally it's better to buy a good brand as generic RAM has a tendency to malfinction ... but I have used generic RAM before without any problems ... you're just not very likely to get bad RAM if you go with corsair

 

ideally, you want the same kind that you have right now (for best results).

i cant help you more without your computer specs, as far as if you need SDRAM or DDR SDRAM. if you arent sure, post as much as you know about your computer hardware

if you have a big-box computer (HP, Dell, Compaq) list the model number.

 

I have an Emachines t3092. I know what type of memory I need but I cant find out what brand. Is there some program on my comp that will give me detailed system specs?

 

Everest will tell you what brand you have on your computer ... chances are if it's an emachine it's generic and there is no real way of buying the same kind

yep, Im pretty sure its generic because Everest didnt give me a brand name. So if I buy a stick of cosair as long as its the same type and everything else it should work, right?

 

Sry for the double post but I need pc2700 ddr sdram. would that be the same as 168 pin sdram or 184 pin ddr?

 

If you require ddr (2700ddr), then it would be 184 pin DIMM. (Not 184 pin RIMM which is RAMBUS)

168 pin DIMM is sdram.
