    Linux!
Hey everybody! I'm down at a local college and a guy from a local "linux user group" is helping me to install the libranet os. You can find it at http://www.libranet.com
Its a type of Debian, except it installs VERY easily. If I can get past the modem issue (I have a Winmodem-may need to buy a hard modem) and can get on the net "by myself", I'll post again.
Paul Esselbach, do you copy this transmission, sir?

Thanks guys!!! I'm not a real geek yet, but now I see that I'm getting there one step at a time! You should have seen the place. Its called the Linux Lab. I'm gonna have my picture taken with the president of the group. He's the guy who helped me. Maybe I'll post it in the lounge:D They had computers EVERYWHERE! (They're studying to be pros of some sort). Great people.
Guess I'll be learning commands now:D Maybe some scripts or C, too!;)

Just finished installing RedHat myself.. already have Mandrake 9.1 dual booting on my main PC, and this new box is to be my web server. So far its going not so well.... i mean... i cant make it accept any kind of connection, which is kinda crap for a web server!

Pffft, Libranet started looking pretty nice until I saw the hefty pricetag on their flagship edition.

If it had a bunch of extra features, then ok. But it seems silly that most of the differences are updated components and free software packages.

EDIT: But I'll try it anyway :)

Well, all I know is, that I stumbled onto a website where these guys said they were installing Linux for free. I wrote them an e-mail, then the guy called me that night, said come down tommorow for their business meeting. That night he installed the 2.8 (newest one) on my HDD for free. He said that it was okay to do it, so who am I to question? Anyway, it didn't cost me anything (yet).

First off GPL is the license, GNU is just the package around the kernel (Linux), the GPL doesn't say it has to be free, it says you can charge money as long as the source code comes with it... Which is where of course scum like Lindows come into play, violating multiple GPL licenses on their products.... *shrugs* Not the time to get into it though.
