Loosing Wireless connection when phone picked up receiving/making calls

For the most part, the Netgear router I got when I bought a HP notebook works (Vista Home Premium). However, when receiving a call or making a call (cordless phone) I loose the internet connection. What's missing? All phones (cordless and regular) have the splitter hooked up. I'm using a DSL modem provided by Verizon - using low end of DSL connection speed (it's affordable for us).

I'm doing this from work. If there's additional information you need to know, I'll see if I can provide it while at work. Otherwise it'll have to wait when I'm at home.

One of splitter (filter) may be bad.

 

Remember that a lot of cordless phones operate on the 2.4 GHZ frequency that wireless routers operate on. You've probably got a simple case of inteference.

If you can, manually change your router's channel to something different.

 

So, what channel would I change it to? I see where I can do that through my router, but what channel or is it and miss? Currently it's set to auto. Does it matter if the laptop IP address is specific defined by the ISP or automatically defined?

How valid is the case of a bad splitter? Not sure how much they are since I got it free through Verizon when I signed up for DSL, in July 2006.

 

The labtop IP should be whatever the router assigns to it, assuming it's like the home routers I've worked with before. Your ISP won't give you personally a static IP address, except within their network (at least from what I understand). I would change the channel to anything specific instead of auto. If that doesn't work, try another one.
