LOP Toolbar driving me crazy!

Sorry - I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this has been asked before. I have been plaqued by this toolbar for ages now. I've run Ad-Aware in safe-mode which finds it, but it always comes back and now I can't even make it go away by clicking the red close button. I have seen some spyware programs that suggest free removal, but find they only scan for free. I have also read some fairly complex instructions for removing, but they all come with warnings if you are not an advanced computer user. Any help in terms that an intermediate user can follow would be appreciated - I want this thing out of my life! Thank you so much.

Okay, thanks. It's Windows XP with the Service Pack 2 update. I had previously been following the instructions of the previous READ ME FIRST posted here in Aug/04. I am now following the latest link you have given me. So far, so good!
