lose internet

i'm on internet playing poker at games.com, lose internet connection. start internet thru taskbar, then get connected. this happens day after day. checked with isp provider, nothing wrong on their end. computer connected to modem, i'm wired, wife is wireless. we both lose internet.
have two year old gateway desktop, windows 7, i3processor, intel hd, 1tb hard drive 6gb memory, multi-in-1 reader.

i'm hopeful somebody can solve my problem before i throw this dam thing away.

Have you tried a different router? Perhaps you could dust one off or borrow one and make sure your present router isn't the problem.

Just for the record, the signal enters (isp reports no problems with the signal on their end) the router where it is converted to ethernet and wireless. Both of you are having the same problem, so it seems logical to me that the service disruption must be happening between the your isp and your router...unless there is something wrong with the router itself.

If the two of you are having the problem at different times, it seems to me still likely it's the line or the router. If this is a relatively new problem, could cold weather have affected signal in line somehow?

I do recall some older virus type bugs that could embed themselves in a router somehow, but I haven't seen that in several years it seems...

 

the isp provider came out last month and replaced router to solve problem.
but the issue remains.
