I need to know what to do to my computer to keep everything safe and sound while I am net free. Do I need to still keep my Norton security hooked up?? Just some advice for the lonely computer.

    Cheers,

Are you saying you won't be using that computer online for a year? By "keep my Norton security hooked up", do you mean leave it set to run as you have been for Internet security? There's really no need to keep Norton Security running during this time that you're not going to be using that computer online. But, as soon as you get back online with it, be absolutely sure that it's running then, and that you update it immediately. Actually, by that time, your subsription to updates may have expired, so you'll need to either pay a renewal fee or buy a newer version of Norton or install another Internet security package.

Yeah, you don't need to be running any of the internet specific stuff like the Firewall, background virus scans of email etc. But you still wan't an on-demand virus scanner and spyware checker with up-to-date signature files so you can check files you bring in on CD/DVD or diskette before you install or load them. You also need to figure out a plan to keep them updated while you're offline.

    usafveteran,
Yes, due to finances I am going to have to have my RoadRunner turned off. That means no internet. So you are saying that I should not keep norton or any other of my security programs? Also, do you think I need to format my computer? Also one more question.

    Thank you for helping me.

    AMH,
Hey. I have ADD and I tend to jump around when I type up post. But as you might have read above I am losing connection to the internet. I would love to hear any advice you might have to offer.

    Thank you.

    Cheers,

    Ves
