Loss of internet connection

Every time I open IE, it opens, then sometimes I can open one or two links and then it crashes. This is not hardware related. I have tested the connection and NIC 6 ways from Sunday. All hardware is good. This happens whether hooked up to DSL, cable, or networked into a cable connection. It happens with ethernet and USB. I know it is not hardware. Am running Windows 2000 Pro, with all updates.

I ran the whole READ THIS FIRST in the beginning of this forum. I ran and installed and updated everything, some through another PC, with this hard drive hooked up as slave.

Never found any trojans, viruses, or worms. Some minor spyware. Some minor adware. All cleaned off fine. Ran Stinger and all the rest.

There are no strange programs listed in the add/remove programs list.

The really oddball thing is I can download (eg. live-updated Norton SW and NIS, Adaware, Spyware Blaster, Spybot, etc.) with no problem, but the second I open IE, the problems begin.

HELP! Has anyone out there heard of this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Running as a slave drive (while a good idea) is not the same as booting from the drive. Some things will only load up when you boot. They come out of the registry or load with applications that you run on the drive. As a slave, you did not load this registry or applications from the infected drive. As I said, its a good start, but will not allow you to see the real problems.

Please post a HijackThis log as an attachment.

Thanks for your response. While I did the initial scans with trendmicro, symantec, adaware, and spybot as a slave, I did re-install this hard drive in its own machine and re-ran everything (except online trendmicro and symantec) at that point. Sorry I forgot to mention that. Long day yesterday. I am attaching the hijack this log as requested. Thanks again.

Your log looks clean! Perhaps you should go to Windows update and get the updates for you PC. You are way out of date. If that does not help (or in the mean time) you could try using FireFox for your browser. Mozilla Firefox
