    Hi Jay and welcome

First off let us know which OS and Sound Card you are using as it will be easier for us to check settings with you?

ok first off check the sound card you have re-installed is seated firmly down, if it is then check the speakers are plugged into the right output hole in the card ( simple one but sometimes thats all that it is *done it myself in the past* ), then check device manager for any red X's or yellow ! marks especially concerning Audio devices... you may need to re-install the sound device for your card.

then if all looks seated correctly startup your pc and goto control panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and on the Volume page check it lists your sound card at the top?

then click Advanced and make sure mute is not ticked, then goto the Audio tab and make sure in Playback your sound card is listed as Default.

Enter your Bios and check that the Sound is set to on.... you may need to look through the menus as I not too sure on those mobos, maybe listed as AC97 Audio.

Have you checked Device Manager for any Red X's or yellow ! marks?

Well, first make sure you've got you speakers plugged into the right jack and the power is on. Then check the sound volume levels on the speakers and in Windows. Simple stuff, but, hey, people forget it sometimes.

You can also try deleting the sound card from Device Manager and rebooting. This works well when the driver files are intact, but the device is somehow misconfigured. Windows will detect your soundcard when you boot again, and should reconfigure everything.

did ask about the info in the first paragraph here http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showpost.php?p=357976&postcount=2 and got answer below it.. but the stuff in your second bit da chicken is a great idea ( forgot that one... ) stuff can and does not install corectly so deleting it and rebooting is sound advice :)
