I have recently got a new notebook and use activesync to keep this and my pda syncronised in ms outlook. All of my calendar appointments to the end of Nov last year are no longer visible - only those after 27th appear. This is true on both the laptop and pda. My old notebook still shows all of the old appointments. Is this just a view issue or have they been deleted? How can I get them back?

On your old PC were you scheduling appointments in a "Personal Folder" as opposed to the "Mailbox"? If so, then the appointments were being stored locally. ...Just a guess.

To be honest, I'm not sure! All I did was open ms express, go to calendar and make the appointments. I guess it was and still is set at whatever the default is. I think that they did transfer over through the pda originally but I'm not 100% certain.

There are subtle differences in the way data storage is handled between Outlook and Outlook Express. In your first post, you referred to only Outlook and not the fact that it's Outlook Express. This link may prove helpful, but it does not address a calendar...

I use regular Outlook in a corporate environment to talk to an Exchange server, which is why I referred to a "Personal Folder" (pst) storing data locally, as opposed to a "Mailbox" residing on the Exchange server. I'm not that familiar with Outlook Express, as I typically use Thunderbird, but (at a glance) it does not appear that Outlook Express has a calendar by default. If the software for the PDA incorporates a calendar into Outlook Express, you may want to look on the PDA manufacturer's website to see if they have a knowledge base or something that will tell you where the calendar data is stored and if it can be migrated to the new computer. Also, there may be a setting in the synchronization software on the new computer that purges or does not sync events older than x amount of time. Sorry I'm probably not going to be much help to you on this one. If you post the model of the PDA and software version information, maybe someone else using the same device will be able to offer further assistance.

Sorry PEBKAC, I've misled you - attention on too many things at once! It is NOT express I have the problem with, it is the calendar in ms outlook. I don't use an exchange server, just the notebook and pda to keep me right in and out of the office. there are some that have transferred ok but nothing there before 27th Nov. Started using the new notebook around the 12thDec. Thanks for the replies

Not a problem. Regular Outlook typically stores its data in an "Outlook.pst" file that is stored here by default:

    C:\Documents and Settings\[userprofile]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

    This should prove helpful...

Thanks for that. Saved the file onto removable disk and imported the file onto the new machine. Seems the errant appointment must have been there after all as I ended iup with double copies of everything. No harm done. Cheers

Glad to hear it worked out for you. FYI: The "Outlook.pst" is a good file to add to your regular backup routine. Having a copy of that can save you a lot of headache should your computer decide to roll over & play dead. That way, in a worst case scenario you don't lose any of your emails, appointments, etc.

I'll certainly do that in the future. To be fair, my "regular backup routine" aint as regular as it should be! rolleyes

    Thanks for the help
