I have just finished cleaning my machine with help from the Malware Removal forum. Since beginning that project I have lost all audio. I'm sorry I cannot pinpoint that exact point or situation at which it disappeared. Just know that it is gone.

    Can you help?

    Hi

    Moved your thread to drivers.

Some info we will need is what is the make and model of your PC and OEM as in, is it a DELL, HP or SONY etc if so post he make and model version.

If its not a pre-built OEM and a custom or home build then what is the make and model of the Motherboard, this will aid us in tracing the correct drivers.

To help in this you could use Everest, need to attach the full log and when running the Report Wizard choose System Summary to create the log, choose Plain Text (txt) then SAVE the file output (choose Save as file type .txt) then attach it to your next post using these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

My computer is a custom built my a local shop here. I noticed that the Everest report had "unknown" on the motherboard. If necessary I can probably check with the computer store here to find the name of the motherboard manufacturer.

    Hi

Judging by one of the codes at the bottom of the Everest list your Motherboard is this ASROCK AM2NF4G one, and drivers are here

Maybe worth installing the NVIDIA all in 1 driver package ver: 812 driver the very top one first then the Audio driver.

    HALO

I downloaded and installed the NVIDIA all in 1 driver package ver: 812 from the ASRock website. Then I downloaded the Realtek high definition audio driver ver:R1.41 and tried to install it. It proceeded through the Install Wizard and gave me this message: "Microsoft Bus Driver should be loaded in your system before installing the Realted HD Audio Driver". When I click OK or close the error window the Install Wizard shuts down. I thought that I was installing the bus driver in the first step?

    Hi

You'll need this drive then the UAA Driver from Microsoft then re-install yoru Audio driver. (click View and request hotfix downloads link at top of page)

    Halo,
For some reason I am having trouble installing the UAA driver from Microsoft. I have downloaded the hotfix file 216955_intl_i386_zip.exe to my Downloads folder. When I execute the file in brings up a Microsoft Self Extractor to unzip the file and asks where I want to unzip the files to. I have responded with my C:/ drive and with my Desktop folder on separate attempts. It then asks me for a password for unzipping each file and I respond with "Skip". I then get a message saying that the files were successfully unzipped, but I cannot find them either on the C:/ drive or the Desktop folder.

Apologies for the trouble, but this is where I am.

    Thanks,

    Vroom

    Hi Vroom

The Password for the zip file is just under the link for the download in the email you got from hotfix @ microsoft.com, but just did a little more reading on this and as SP3 came with the UAA driver in it already, then the one from the Hotfix just has the SP2 installer, however its possible to install the actual driver as you may notice in Device Manager you have in Other Devices > Unknown PCI Device/Audio Device/Sound and Video (could be any or various combinations of those)?

If so then download this zip and extract it to any folder (I had to extract the actual HD Audio UAA files from the hotfix for you and as they are too large to attach here I used my Windows Skydrive accounts storage under the name of KB888111 commonfiles) once extracted, open Device Manager and double click the Unknown Device and choose the Driver tab and then click Update Driver, click Browse My Computer > browse for the location of the KB888111 commonfiles folder and click Next to install the driver.

really hope that works as alternative is to uninstall SP3 and reinstall.

    Halo

I'll try to tell you exactly what I have done to this point and hopefully you will be able to follow.

I downloaded the file KB888111 commonfiles to my Desktop and extracted the files. Before doing this I had noticed that in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/HOMEPC/System Devices I had an item named PCI Device with a yellow exclamation point calling for an uninstalled driver. So I double clicked it and called for a driver to be installed from the KB888111 commonfiles folder on my Desktop. It performed the procedure and now I no longer have the PCI Device item with the yellow exclamation point. Instead I now have the item Control Panel/......Device Manager/HOMEPC/Sound, Video, and game Controllers/Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus that has the yellow exclamation point. When I double click on that item and call for a driver to be installed from the KB888111 commonfiles folder on my Desktop I get the error message "The file ALCMTR.exe on the Realtek HD Audio Installation Disk is needed" and of course, I don't have that Disk. So on to the next thing, I guess.

Just so that you know the files that I have in the KB888111 commonfiles folder are:
    hdaprop.dll
    hdashcut
    hdaudbus
    hdaudbus
    hdaudio
    hdaudio
    hdaudres.dll

Again, my apologies for all the trouble, but I want you to know how much I appreciate your efforts.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Vroom

    Hi Vroom

Yes forgot to tell yo to re-install the Realtek Driver after forcing the UAA driver to install in SP3 as the UAA driver in its native package doesnt install in SP3 only SP2.... but glad you figured it out in the end.

Hey I learned through your question a way to force UAA KB888111 into SP3 to fix this after a malware infection or accidental deletion, so helped me with a new route to this issue.

Cheers for feedback and do keep visiting the site, not with just problems but the lounge is a good place to chat and meet other like minded souls on the superhighway.

    Regards
