Lost Connection

I am having an issue with a lost connection on my home network since upgrading to windows 7.

My wired network consists of two PCs, an XBox 360 and and PS3. All are hard wired in CAT5e to a D-Link 8 Port Gigabyte switch which is then in turn connected to my WRT310n router.

Occassionally on my office PC. Losses it's connection to the network (and internet). I just get the the little yellow triangle over the network icon and loose all network connections. If I disable and then enable the network adapter the connection is restored temporarily.

Network card is onboard gigabyte LAN on an ASUS P5K SE motherboard. I have updated to the latest drivers.

WRT310n has been working fine for me for approximately 1 year when I bought it. When I first bought it I updated the firmware to the most current version at the time but not since then (I'm sorry I don't know the firmware revision at the moment and don't have access to my computer here).

I have read that this problem may be related to IPV6 support and have considered disabling it but have yet to try that.

What is downside to disabling IPV6. Any other suggestions.

    Hi

When you upgraded to Windows 7 was this a clean install or an upgrade from the current installed operating system and if so what one was it? reason for asking is the upgrade scenario from XP to Windows 7 while may work is not supported and can cause issues like this.

What I would try is to look in device manager and do you have any yellow ! marks? if so what are they next too?

Disable your firewall if you have a 3rd party one like Norton, Comodo etc but also tell us what one you use if not just the built in Windows one, look for updates to that application too.

No major downside as yet to disabling TCP/IPv6 so give it a try, could also from an elevated command prompt (elevated command prompt is opened by clicking Start > typing CMD into the Start Search Box and then right clicking CMD and choosing Run as Administrator) then type or copy and paste netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled and hit enter, then reboot and check internet.

It was a clean install of Windows 7.

I am just using the windows firewall and Microsoft security essentials for AV.

I'll check the device manager tonight although I did check it when the problem arose and there was no issue identified with network adapter but I did look specifically at it.

After reading your post I googled the autotuning level below and will try it. Once set will it remain disabled until I re-enable it?

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    HI

Yes it will stay disabled until you enable it.

Also look for any firmware updates to your modem router as older ones can have issues with the newer OSes.

Some Windows 7 info here on your modem/router http://www.linksysbycisco.com/UK/en/support/WRT310N so do check your firmware version.

Ment to ask is your Windows 7 32bit or 64bit? and in Device Manager what is the driver version of the LAN driver?

Firmware I am running is v1.00.4-CA from January of 2008. Will update this tomorrow night if problem persists although it hasn't recurred since the night before my first post.

    Windows 7 - 64 Bit.

LAN Driver info is shown in picture attached.

I think I finally solved this issue. Here were all the steps I tried.

    1. Upgraded to latest router firmware
    2. Disabled Autotuning
    3. Diabled IPV6 Protocol
    4. Searched for new drivers with windows update
    5. Downloaded Vista drivers from ASUS
    6. Could not install Vista Drivers until I learned about compatibility mode
    7. Installed Vista drivers from ASUS using compatibility mode

It's been working well for 1/2 a day now so here's hoping. Thanks for your help.
