The first thing I would try would be to use another computer to redownload SAS and transfer it to her computer. Then once re-installed, open it and go to Preferences / tools / repairs and scroll down to fix the connection. If that doesn't work, you will have to have her do an ipconfig and see what is reported.

Point her in the direction of the Windows Management Applications and System logs, she may see errors that have begun since the last connection to the 'net - they might give you some clues?

EDIT: Sorry Tim, didn't see you there.

    Hi

Did as suggested and downloaded SAS back onto pc, ran the repair, no luck.

Here is the info from ipconfig

    Ethernet adapter local area network
Connection - specific DNS suffix =
    IP address = 192.168.1.3
    Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1
    Thats the lot.

I ran the service providers troubleshooting disk which said this message.
    Problem with T.C.P Stack

Dont know what it means, but is it any help?

Win xp by the way, she is on automatic updates
she has IE8, after this update she could not download from the internet but could surf.

    Hope you can help!

Try using the command ipconfig /flushdns to flush the DNS resolver cache. Open the command prompt by right clicking on it and run as admin and type the following ipconfig /flushdns then press enter it wil then say after that,
    Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.
    This flushes the dns cache

    Hi

I have done both options as suggested, have flushed out stack using ipconfig /flushdns then used the winsock repair program, still not connected.
I ran the Service Provider CD and have added the log it produced.
I dont understand what else could be wrong!!
    Any thoughts
    Many thanks

Type into run/start services.msc ait for your services to open, and then check to see if your DNS Client is on " Started Automatic " if not go to top left inside the column and click on stop the service, and then click on start the service, also you can check all your serices by clicking on this link http://www.blackviper.com/ scroll down the page a bit and choose your services in, popular content list, then check services, as his site is going through some changes at the moment thats the only way you can check your services !

    Good Luck ! Rusty ! ;)

    Yes to 1st #
#2 Another tedious way of doing it then is for you to go to the site and write all the services down, which i once done along time ago when i didn't have a printer to print the screen, OH! how long and boring that was, or get your friend to pop round yours with her comp and check the services whilst sat next to you !

Off to get somethin to eat now, will speak to you later, but still think best bet is to print screen off at BV's site and take it to friend !

I'd uncheck the 'automatically detect settings' in the Internet control panel > Connections tab > LAN settings.

The user has a USB Voyager 105 ADSL modem, yes? Is the program that runs it starting with Windows?

If so, Start > All Programs > BT Voyager ADSL Modem > Configure then click on Diagnostics. The app will ask for the Broadband username and password, enter it and click Next. IE should eventually pop up with the results of the diags.

    Hi Guy's,

Firstly thanks for the help and support its very gratefully appreciated.
Second..... We are know online, the problem was the (modem)router and that is working, however!!!!!. :)

When I go onto the internet I can surf the pages no probs, however if I try to download anything ie adobe reader or dell support drivers I get this message.

"iexplore.exe application error" " instruction @ 0x11ff0068 memory at 0x11ff0068 The memory could not be written"
So at the moment we cannot download anything, program is IE8, the strip along the top of the page says click to download, but this message then appears and the page is closed.

Sorry if I need to post another question if so just let me know.

Do you think this could be something to do with add on's?:confused

    Many thanks

I have checked this out and the box is already unchecked.

I have been searching the internet and there seems to be quite a few people experiencing problems with IE8 and downloading files etc from the internet I keep trying to install Adobe but screen just freezes I am going to try disabling the add-ons in the add on manager. I will get back with the results, there may be someone else having the same problem as me!

    Hi

Just thought I would get back and let you all know how things have gone, there ended up being two separate problems for my friend, the first was a problem with her router this we sorted out with her service provider. The second problem was that she could not download anything in IE8, after a lot of searching and reading on the internet, this seems to be a problem with IE8 and lots of others are experiencing it. Eventually I found an article which said that the way to solve the problem was to right click on the IE icon and turn off addons well this worked, seems there is a glitch in IE8 that stops certain programs downloading (they give a complicated explanation at microsoft)

Still if anyone else has the problem disable the addons or go through them to see which one is the culprit.

Anyway thanks to all who took the time to answer my need for help, always nice to have that back-up in the form of another take on the problem.

Till the next time :wave cyberchick
