Lost Doc Recovery

    I was working on a document with Word 2010, gave it a title, saved it multiple times and after re-starting my computer it vanished. I tried recovery and the scan available on this website, but nothing has been able to find it. Originally, I downloaded it from my email, and before saving I had to enable editing, so it was probably encrypted. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on recovering such a document or should I just give up on it? Thanks!

    What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?


    The enable editing is just a security measure in Word as the doc is potentially from an unknown source, so before editing it you have to enable, I get this all the time in work as it happens with Office docs on networks as well.

    As for finding, did you save originally from the email attachment to your hard drive and if so have you checked the location you saved the file in?

    Check in Word the recently used list and locations for that file.

    Can also use the info HERE to see if this helps as Word does if set to do so, save periodically a backup file in case of issues. (do make sure that in the Folder Options you have unhidden files and folders)

    What recovery and scans did you use? just so we don't go over same ground.

    I ended up finding it in one of the hidden folders (which I did not even know existed). Thanks!
