lost file

I have a file named "D" that contains all my working files & is huge. I needed to move it, so I did a "copy." Eventually, I got a message that one of the documents was in use & it stopped. I closed the document in use & was going to again copy it, but first I deleted the new copied file. I got a message that the file was too big for the recycle bin, so I permanently deleted it. When I went back to the original file, the only document there is the one that had been in use. I really don't understand how this happened, since I was copying "D" not moving it. Is there any way for me to retrieve this file? If not, I'm in big trouble! I had done a duplicate of this file onto an external hard drive on 3/29, but that would mean everything for the last 5 mo. is gone. :cry Gini

Thanks, Decads & Halo! I tried both of these programs & saved everything they came up with in 2 separate files on an external hard drive. Unfortunately, it would take me forever to sort through all of them & put them back where they go, as the documents are not in the files where they belong, but at least I can search for something if I need it. It's good that I'd done a duplicate of the files a month ago! Gini
