Hi, I had a 40 gb hard drive with Windows XP Pro on it. Windows was getting slow so I thought it's time format! So I Installed XP onto one of my raid drives, thinking i would be able to just copy all the stuff i needed from the old 40gb. However, after installing, I couldn't find the 40gb drive. I told a friend who said its Windows XP protection and to format the drive. I ran the install on the 40gb and deleted the partition, then created a new one. Then realised I couldn't format without installing windows!
So now I have a raw 40gb drive that still cant be seen when i boot from the raid drive. I've tried the HDD on different IDE channels but that didn't help. Here is some of what i get when i run AIDA32:

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Service Pack 1
    Intel Pentium 4HT, 3348 MHz (5.75 x 582)
Gigabyte GA-8INXP (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 4 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN)
    Intel Granite Bay E7205
    1024 MB (DDR SDRAM)
    Award Modular (02/27/03)

    Storage:
    Floppy Drive Floppy disk drive
Disk Drive Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device
Disk Drive Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device
Disk Drive Promise 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device
Optical Drive AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device (Virtual DVD-ROM)

    Partitions:
    C: (NTFS) 64769 MB (24525 MB free)
    D: (NTFS) 76308 MB (3612 MB free)
    E: (NTFS) 76308 MB (765 MB free)
    G: (NTFS) 164164 MB (2161 MB free)

Did you install RAID drivers? Find out what RAID chipset you have and get the proper drivers, more than likely XP cant see the RAID device at all. Usually when you install XP you hit F6 at the blue screen and install them from there but I am not sure if you have an extra raid drive or if your XP partition is also RAID. Let me know.

Does the drive show up in Device Manager?

Thanks Adrynalyne, didn't even think of looking in device manager. For some reason the ata drivers were not installed properly. I just updated them and it was fine.
    Thanks again.
