My problems started when I got stuck in a xp recover on the os disk.I decided to formatt and reinststall xp unfortunatly I had'nt got round to makeing a slipstream cd with sp2 so I am still running no sevice packs. Now it shows my second drive but not the size should be 250 gig from memory, it will also not let me browse the disk. I would very much like to recover this disk or it's data. Any suggestions before I bite the bullet and refomatt would be most wellcomed.

Just the obvious, can you see it in the bios? If not, double check the cables and jumpers, if it is IDE. There were some drives that did not show up properly on older hardware, so installing service packs might help. You can also hook it up as main and see if it shows up to verify cables and the drive are not bad.

    What make is the drive?

A messy method would be to use manufacturers tools, especially if it is a Seagate.

You would be best served getting you XP back up to SP2 standard, although SP1 should be enough to see the drive.
