lost internet connection after enabling ICS in Win7

i have a problem whenever i share my internet connection. whenever i do the following:

1. enabling my laptop to act as wifi hotspot by using the comand prompt to key in the setting, OR
2. install Connectify

i get disconnected from the net. but when i disable ICS or uninstall Connectify, my internet connection returns.

also, i checked if there were changes in the ip address before and after enabling ICS/installing Connectify, IP address is still the same.

lastly, this also happens when i try to share the internet connection via USB internet dongle.

is this a hardware or software problem?

i dont have router right now. my isp only provided a cable modem (docsis).

 

Easier to use a wifi router, than use another computer as a poor man's device.

 

try to set the laptop's internal LAN connection (network adapter) to obtain IP settings automatically (dhcp) as you might have an incorrect gateway IP.
