lost internet connection

I cannot get on to the internet anymore. How can I tell whether my connection problem is due to a problem with AOL 9 or a problem with my internet explorer?

What type of service do you have?
Unplug your modem box( if using one ) for 15-20 seconds. Plug back in.
This forces a reset of static IP addresses.

In the UK we have had many connection problems with AOL since UK AOL was sold to Carphone Warehouse = Carphone Warehouse changed the AOL network = many problems for AOL users I do not know if similar has happened in France, maybe AOL still own AOL there?

Do you use DSL or Dial-up?

Which version of Internet Explorer?

I always find the best thing to start off with is resetting everything ... shut down the computer for at least a minute, and do the same with the modem ... if it doesn't work after like that, try hooking up the same modem with the same cable to another computer and try connecting via that machine, if it works from that machine then you can safely say its not the modem or the cable, and its most likely your Ethernet card or component on the motherboard ... I picked a TP-Link 10/100 Ethernet Card up from my local IT store for AU$11
