After the power went out, Program Files and everything in it, as well as My Documents (though nothing in it) lost their long filenames. I was hoping someone knew of a utility to retrieve the names, as I have heard of some such thing, but hoped I would never need it. :-o I did rename Program Files, My Documents, Program Files\Common Files, and what I needed to get on the Internet.

    Also, Recycle Bin was affected.
    It's a FAT32 partition, with win98.

I found that long filenames are stored as additional directory entries (scandisk says to delete them, which would keep all the programs from working, making reinstallation necessary) I am trying using to download disk editors: R-Studio and Disk Explorer trial to see if they can help. Any other ideas?

Does anyone know command line parameters for windows\command\sulfnbk.exe? I found how to use it to restore long filenames for the start menu at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/190418 but I guess that's all it does?

I just realized that one of the folders (shared over a network) got an old folder's name. I thought it had been deleted a long time ago. Strange. It wasn't being shared, until I renamed it, and the shared hand icon reappeared.
