lost my desktop internet connection.

I'm very inexperienced in this area, that's why I am here. Please excuse me if I use the wrong terminology.

I lost my internet connection to my desktop PC, but I still have wireless internet access on my laptop. My internet is wired in from cable to my modem box. From the modem box to my wireless router then from the router to my desktop. The Local Area Connection Icon in the Desktop tool bar has the Status listed as "Aquiring Network Address".

I contacted my internet provider, tech support to try to resolve the problem. They believe that the probem may be in the Network Interface Card. If it is, how do I correct the problem? Do I have to replace it? I hope someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Need you to do a few things and post all the results back here.
Open Device Manager and see if there are any red x's or yellow flags next to your network adapter. Next, open a command prompt, Windows Key + R, type cmd and then type the following without the quotes and paste all the results back here, "ipconfig /all". Also check, open IE, click Tools, Internet Options, Connection Tab and then the LAN Tab and in the window that opens make sure that all the check boxes are clear, if not clear them and close IE and re-open IE.

 

Thanks for your post, but I got an internet connection prior to your posting. O don't know what I did, but I nessed around with some settings and it seemed to have solved the problem.
