lost news feeds on vista computer

my laptop runs a news feed. the laptop is an HP Pavilion HD with Vista, and is only a year old. there's a wrench next to the news feed, but when I click on it, it just gives me feeds to use and is on auto select for all feeds. when I click on ok or whatever the prompt is, it remains dead. no news feed starts. it's been like this for nearly a week.

how do I get it to receive news feeds again?

nothing strange has happened to my computer that I'm aware of. the feed is the only thing that's not working on it. I have AVG's full security package on it, and I don't go places I shouldn't-though bad stuff gets onto normal sites sometimes, too.

I don't comprehend technology, so a short trip into RSS feeds merely gave me an all too familiar headache. I hope the "fix" is a simple one. if not, I'll remove the news feed from my desktop and go back to getting my news from the www.

um....the what? I have no idea what you just said. g(r)eek to me, I'm afraid...

not a clue about this stuff, I just know it's on my desktop, it's a news feed aka an RSS feed (I think), and it's broke.

I'm a 365 "pro", but haven't been able to keep up with the technology since then. too much change too fast. my head hurts constantly from just trying to understand a fragment of it all. and why in heck do the names keep having to change, or have multiple names for the same thing? it just boggles the mind trying to keep it all strait. a news feed is a news feed, all the other names for it just add to confusion.

so, keep it simple. how do I find out what you want to know?

I have a "gadgets" sidebar on my desktop. among other things I've found and added to it, I have a small midnight blue box that has 4 thumbnail style clickable white lettering headlines in it, and a page scroll at the bottom to go from group 1-4 to group 96-100. there's no name to it, but there is a little toolbar on it's upper right corner, with an x to close it, a wrench to choose the feeds available (all feeds, MS feeds, MS feeds home/office, MS feeds MSNBCNews) and what looks like a keypad, but I haven't been able to get it to do anything at all. the headlines still open to the news they connect to, but they're now a week old. no new updates for the past week and no clue how to get it going again. it's set automatically to all feeds. I changed the settings but it didn't do anything new, so I returned it to all feeds. it still auto scrolls, so with all the things that do still work, it's not completely broken, it just doesn't receive new feeds. go figure.

oh. duh. ok, I think I know what you meant. will follow the link and see if I can figure it out. just slowing down mentally, I guess. sheesh.
