    Hey guys,

My dad has a custom built server and wanted to through it away, but I decided to take a look at it. The harddrive was bad so I replaced it with another used one and installed XP.

    Now, I'm having problems.
When I plug in usb devices or ethernet chords in, it does nothing (the usb devices receive power from the computer though [they light up]).

I took a look under device manager and see a few Multimedia Controllers and Multimedia Video Controllers with yellow question marks next to it under Other Devices

There is no Network Adapter option to look under.

    My motherboard is ECS KT600-A

I googled around and found this
    http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...ilID=360&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=0

I downloaded all the drivers in the download section but when i came to installing the LAN dl, whose msi was called WinSetup (Windows network adapter set...), It says "Can not find proper NIC, click ok to exit program"

Other peoples solutions were finding their proper driver...but surely that is my proper driver in the link above, right? So i dont have a lost driver?

I dont know what to do

I assume you are DLing and installing the VIA VT823x PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter driver found on the website?

If you're getting a message that the nic cannot be found, maybe the nic has been switched out for another one at some point?

    Hello,
If you find that a NIC card has not been switched out as abekl suggested and you are still using the motherboard LAN port you might want to try this updated driver at Via's site. It is for the VIA VT6103 PHY chip.

Via also has update chipset drivers for your motherboard here.

Install the chipset driver first then the ethernet driver. Also, I suggest you install SP3 for XP if you have not done so.

I've installed the chipset driver already, and just reinstalled it.
I rebooted and a VIA V-RAID icon appeared in the system tray (this never came up before). I ran the ethernet driver and it said installation complete!!!

I went to device manager and clicked scan for changes but I still don't see network manager listed. Theres also the same 4 multimedia controllers and 4 multimedia video controllers with yellow question marks under Other devices

Oh, and Im not to familiar with hardware, but the ethernet port connects directly to the motherboard. This would mean that the NIC is embedded on the motherboard right? -so the NIC card couldnt have been switched.

It seems i never installed the updated driver that tgell posted till now. It said installation complete.
the VIA VT823x PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter driver found on their website that abekl mentioned still says "can not find proper NIC, click ok to exit"

    :(

Is there anything in Device Manger called Network Adapter now that you installed the VIA VT6103 driver?

The only other thing I can think of is that onboard LAN may be disabled in BIOS. Can you find anything in BIOS related to onboard LAN?

    haha That was the problem!!!!!!!!!

It, along with a whole bunch of other things, were disabled under Integrated Peripherals.

Thank you guys for helping me out.
