lost or corrupted files

hello
if you lose a file or it becomes corrupted(according to sfc) is there a way to retrieve it besides using the instalation disc. That is if you do not know the file.

Try disk check and set to fix file system errors, and install www.piriform.com/recuva .

 

It is odd that you metntion disc check as that was not working and the beginning of my woes.
Then I did a recover to fix it but system restore did not work.
I finally got everything up and runing.
Anyway, thanx for the tips.
I have recuva and but did not know the name of the file. It just reported that i had corrupted files.
Recuva did recover some pix from my camera card which I erased -that was great.
Check disk is a great idea and thanx again.
