i used Magic Partition to merge two partitions. during the process, it didn't display any error. however, after i reset the computer to see the result, the should-be-there merged partition was nowhere to be found. i used EASEUS Partition Recovery to search the entire disk for my lost partition, but the software couldn't find it. now my lost partition is categorized as "unallocated", and that's 20GB of important documents. please help :( i'll provide any further information needed.

What a disaster! A few suggestions

    - See if you are able to search for and recover your files with Recuva. However I'm not certain it can actually search unallocated areas of the disk.

    - try Acronis Disk Director, not free but has always recovered lost partitions for me

Good luck with it. Too late I know, but all the advice of the true experts on the Acronis forums has always been never to use merge.

Try Partition Wizard (very similar to EASUS) to see if it's Partition Recovery option will see the lost partition. It too will scan your HD to see what it can find. Guide: http://www.partitionwizard.com/help/partition-recovery.html If it finds the old partitions look at the free/used space to see if the amount used looks correct for your old files. You can also double click any found partition to get a listing of files. If all looks ok then you can try to recover the original partitions. You want to make sure you check all the boxes for all the partitions you want to recover. Not just one box.

MiniTool's Powerdatarecovery will also try to scan for lost partitions and then let you copy the data to a USB flash or other external device. It is free but you have to indicate you are a home user when starting it up. You do not have to upgrade to recover data. (You can't copy it to the same HD that you are trying to recover data from.)
