Is there any trick to either recover a lost password or bypass the login screen for Windows 2000 Pro? I moved back in October and used to work from home, so I created a password on the computer. I just broke the old boy out and realized when it booted that I don't remember what the password is nor do I recall where I might have put it!! Any suggestions??? I just picked up a new account I would like to work from home again and really need to get this computer up and running again!!

    Thanks!

Call me a little computer-illiterate but that seems awfully complicated. Is there is an easier walkthrough that someone can get me? I'm confused on the part of the SCSI drivers? I'm thinking that I copy the file onto a floppy disk and then insert it into my no-password computer on boot up? Will it automatically just take it from the restart and just start doing whatever it is supposed to do and then I just follow the instructions?

Tina, this might help you find it. It helped me recently when I got a new/used Win2k Pro that wasn't cleaned out. It's called Windows System Information (SIW) by Gabriel Topala.

After you have it installed, scroll down to the last item under Software, "Secrets." You can find an incredible amount of stuff about your puter with this program. Good Luck, and I hope this wasn't TOOOO late. :)

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your prob. If you can't even log on, my advice is useless. Sorry. BTW...I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread, 'cos I'd like to get rid of the log-on screen, too.

Well, recovering (basically, bypassing) a password is supposed to be complicated LOL. Otherwise, what's the point of a password?

But seriously, it wasn't that difficult. If I recall, you do need to go into the BIOS and set the floppy drive as the first boot drive if it isn't already. Once the computer boots from the floppy, just follow the instructions on the screen. Even if you goof it up, you can just start over.

OMG! That worked! I had actually gone on my other working puter and printed out the instructions to take along upstairs with me. I created the floppy disk, went into my BIOS at startup (delete key) and made the floppy boot first and then the program just ran. I saw my user name and left the password blank (as recommended) and also the one for the administrator. When I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, it started and shazaam!! I was in!!

That was really awesome!! I am now on my computer and have had no problems. I am keeping the floppy disk and also the print out instructions for future reference!

And Cobra- thanks for the program - it was very interesting stuff!
