Still having two distinct problems. Just recovered from ctfmonb. Performed several fixes. 1st problem now is no matter what usb device that I plug in, the safely remove hardware icon does not appear in task tray. I have plugged in several devices and checked each one in device properties / policies and all so far are checked optimize for quick removal. I have tried to change this to optimize for performance and the icon still does not appear in task tray. What has happened? Whole house is trained to use safely remove hardware buttons and I don't have it in me to give everyone another tutorial. Is there anyway to get this back please?
Also, the second problem is that my volume control icon will not auto load on boot up. I go to control panel / sound and it is checked so that it will appear in task tray. The only way I can get this to happen is to uncheck it, hit apply, then check it and hit ok. It then appears. Big hassel.. any solutions?

Tried both but neither worked. I can get the sound icon to reappear only if i go to control panel, uncheck always appear in task bar, click apply and then check it and click ok. But if it reboots still no sound icon. Still no luck with the safely remove icon. Its weird. If I plug a usb in nothing but can pull up it's policies and it still reads optimize for quick removal. If I change it to optimize for performance I still do not get the icon and it will not check or let me check write cache. perplexing and aggrivating.

I can use run line and safely remove with that but no Icon appears. I did have success with alternate usb eject. Put it on my desktop. Any ideas about how to get icon back as default? thanks for the help....

I tried a fix at kellys korner and it seemed to work for me. Would like to pass it along for you to comment on and possibly help others. Researched notifications tray problems and found many people talking about past icons stream. Navigated through regedit and found my past icons stream to be extremely full. Went to kellys korner #53 and ran. It has seemed to correct my problem atleast. Thoughts are appreciated.
