the story in short: bought a used computer with xp pro installed. Everything worked fine, however since the pro was on a volume license and key functions such as updates and system restore where under remote control form system admin i decided to do a fresh install.
armed with a fresh xp home service pack 2 i attempted a full reformat and clean install. However i took wrong turn at first and would up with both home and pro installed on one partition. And there was no volume control or sound in the home installation. Running updates from windows checking there support and working from control panel left me with following error info:

Multi media audio controller pci bus 0 device 2 function 7 drivers not installed 28

VIA AC'97 audio controller WDM device can not start 10

tried un-reconnect in device manager, updating drivers rolling back drivers and anything else from windows troubleshooters.

Finally is did find out how to do a proper clean install. so running just xp home. however still no sound. all the previously listed errors still in effect.

Having tried every windows based tool i can find and hunting here for any solutions In the forums with out luck I am hoping some one can point me in the right direction. i have already run the everest scan as it seems to be commonly requested in such cases results posted below.

any help is greatly appreciated. i most likely won't get chance to reply to any answers till later saturday so please don't feel unappreciated if I don't reply to your replys right away.
