Hi all, I'm using a HP Pavillion dv6157ea Laptop which I've had from new and never really had any trouble.......

Until.........my lovely 2 year old daughter got her little paws on it and did god knows what? but as a result all the sound has stopped working :confused Including system sounds i.e.boot up, shut down windows noises etc, there is no sound on media player or on downloaded video files....No s ound what-so-ever :cry

At the top of the keyboard area on this laptop are some touch sensitive keys for Quick Play, DVD, Mute, Volume Up/Down etc. Whenever these touchkeys were touched they made a 'peep' sound, this too has stopped working :confused

I've checked all the obvious things but without success!!! Any ideas most welcome.

I've also installed up to date drivers too.

    Thanks in advance :)

    1. Check the BIOS to be sure sound is enabled.
    2. Is there a volume icon in the tray?
    3. In device manager are there any yellow !s or red Xs ?
    4. When you open sound and in the playback tab, does speaker have a green checkmark/tick at it? That means that speaker is the default sound device.
    5. Have you tried a system restore to a point in time before your daughter played with the computer?

    Hi, thanks for the reply.......

    1. I have looked at the BIOS but not too sure what to do from there to check :confused so left alone!
    2. Yes and all seems ok with it
    3. None that I can see
    4. How do you mean, "open sound"?
    5. I've tried a system restore this morning and it went all the way through the process before telling me that it was "unable to restore" on the final boot up???

Thanks again for your time ;)

Click on the sound icon in Control Panel.
It could be headphone is set as the default sound device rather than speakers. A laptop is supposed to toggle between headphone and speaker but on my eeepc the toggle switch sometimes get stuck.

I only can suggest a workaround until someone comes along with another suggestion. Plug an external speaker into the headset jack. (Make sure it isn't too powerful - something like a speaker for an mp3 player).

I'm not sure if you tried this but goto control panel, click on sound, click the advance tab come over to the pc speaker tab and make sure it is not on mute...if ti is take the check mark out
