Had probs with Soundmax on comp, deleted it thinking i could just download an updated version and not that easy is it?
After many hours trying i finally gave up.
Attached is an Everest report so hopefully with help i can find a version that will work.
Tried sys restore but that would not work either?
    Thanks in advance

First, download install your chipset drivers from this direct link. Reboot when done. Then download and install the sound drivers from this direct link. For some reason, Asus decided to use the RAR compression standard on the sound drivers. This means you'll need WinRAR (not free) or TUGzip (free) to extract the drivers (or something else similar to unzip files). If this driver doesn't work, let us know and we'll try something else! :-D

(When installing TUGzip just click 'Next' all the way through. At the end of the install, there will be a little check-box for "Launch TUGzip"; go ahead and launch it; click "Next" all the way through again until you see a "Finish" button; there will be a column on the left side with a bunch of different archive formats; click the "Select All" button; click "Finish". A window will open that looks like an Explorer-type window, close it. Right click the file you downloaded (the file you want to extract) and click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow, it will say something like "Extract to: .\filename" and the file will extract to a folder of the same name. )

One thing i did before was to install service pack 3.Also ran a driver update scan from drivers section on this site, soon after i lost internet and even though ethernet cable is connected my comp says it isnt?
Again i have tried sys restore several times, even in safe mode but it keeps saying it could not restore.Wondering if it is to do with srv pack 3?
I put the link for the chipset on to a stik from another comp.and then put them on mine but got an error code saying they are corrupted.Am trying again. What a headache!

Have installed the chipset and Soundmax, all ok now have sounds back.Still no internet. In device manager for DVD/CD-ROM drives, there are yellow exclamation marks on HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B and below that Scandisc cruiser usb device? The latter i not know where this came from?
I also had a Netgear GA311 wireless modem with card.the modem is not connected now, just the modem from supplier straight into comp.Where as before they were connected in tandem. In network adapters the NVIDIA nforce network controller 2 is ok but Netgear GA311 Gigabyte adapter has yelow exclamation mark? In device manager it says it cannot start because config info in registry is incomplete or damaged (code 19)This i assume is the card of which the modem is connected to.Could this be why i have no internet connection?
    Thanks for your help

The only thing i can suggest is format your drive and reinstall xp (sp3 is a real pain because i've alway had trouble with it):cry.

Yeah, SP3 can be problematic sometimes.... it installs perfect about 90% of the time, it's the other 10% that gets nightmarish :eek

You can download your chipset and ethernet drivers from this link. It's one download with several drivers bundled into a single installer. It's a big file (160mb+) and will take some time to download. I'd recommend using FireFox 'cuz Internet Explorer can hang or drop big downloads. Then burn the file to CD or use a USB flash drive to get into the malfunctioning PC.

    Good luck!
