School boy error time again folks! lol

Got a customer who's xp pro based system has set itself a login password completely out of the blue and when going into safe-mode there is no normal extra administrators account to use to change the login password.

    Can anyone help me please?

    Many thanks! :)

Ive never had this problem, or used this software, but I had a root around and found this software in a magazine. It claims to let you make a boot disk that you can put in and reset your password. Its commercial but you get a free try of it. May be worth a look at, or someone else may know of a freeware alternative maybe?

If ye hit CTRL + ALT + DEL two times in a row, a username and password box should appear. Try using administrator as the username and pressing enter (skip the password).

    See if this helps.

Try this: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Active_Password_Changer_d4707.html I know it says that it's a paid program, but I've used it (not this particular download however) to clear passwords in the past. It works great! It's a bit confusing at first, but if you just read what's on the screen and think for a minute, you'll figure it out..... even if you do have to pay for it, it may very well be worth it. Also, check out the Ultimate Boot for Windows (UBCD4Win) at this link: http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm Read the instructions and 'build' yourself the CD (you'll need a full version WinXP CD to do it). It has a password tool (actually 2 or 3) and TONS of other VERY helpful tools. It's basically Windows that you can boot to and it runs entirely off the CD! Like the Linux Knoppix CD- except it's Windows. It can come in handy when a PC won't boot and you need to back up data (among other things)... check it out!

Don't try this at home but I believe you can pull the battery on the motherboard, CMOS battery, wait a few minutes and replace, You will need to check your BIOS settings before this and possibly set them back to what they were before removal.

This will have no effect on Windows passwords whatsoever.

Try Cain & Abel. A piece of software which is free and lists the log on password

    Hope this helps
