Lost Windows XP Password

    My daughter can't remember the password for her XP Home laptop. I can log on using the Guest account (no password set) but can't get admin control of the machine. Can anyone help me figure out how to get past this without reinstalling Windows (argh).

    Thanks Major, but I don't think that will work. I believe that utility is for application passwords and can be useful once you're logged onto the machine. I need to get figure out how to log on to Windows with admin rights. Hopefully someone will have a solution.

    I haven't tried that as I thought you still needed to enter your password, even in safe mode.

    XP Home will allow a log in as administrator ..probably no password set for it ...then you can change user passwords.

    Thank you so very much. I can't believe how easy that was. You wouldn't believe the crap I found on other sites that would have been a royal pain in the butt. You guys are the best.

    No problem ....tell the daughter to write it down!!!

    I have a file that is full of passwords for all sorts of stuff ...like I could remember half of it!!:rolleyes:
