I just turned my computer on and i got this message.
'Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.'

I have only seen the error message when the workstation is not able to communicate with a Domain server. Is this computer a lone computer not hooked up to a domain, or is it in a Domain environement such as at a college, or office?

Error Message: Windows Cannot Find the Local Profile and Is Logging You On with a Temporary Profile

    SYMPTOMS

When you log on, you may receive a temporary profile at the workstation, and you may receive the following error message: Windows cannot locate your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be propagated to the server. DETAIL: Network path was not found.
If you have not logged on to this workstation before, you also receive the following error message: Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes to your profile will be lost when you log off.
When you log off, your profile is deleted.
    CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the server that hosts the roaming profile is not available or cannot be reached by the workstation.
    RESOLUTION

Ensure that the client has connectivity and can resolve the server that is hosting the roaming profile.

    MORE INFORMATION

For additional information, enable debugging for the environment and examine the Userenv.log file. Partial output from a sample Userenv.log file:
