Lost word document

    My sister called me today and she was working on a big paper and didnt save it and her computer rebooted at some point during the night, is there any way to recover the document? the papers due tommorrow i would really apppriciate the help

    If, under Tools -> Options -> Save she had "Always create backup copy" checked, there would be a file appended ".bak" or ".wbk" that contained her most recent save of the doc. Alternately, under the same tab is the option to "Save Auto Recovery info every XX minutes". You can search manually for Auto Recovery files, which have the extension ".asd". Failing those, you can search for Temp files with the extension".tmp" or that begin with a tilde "~*.*", looking for files dated the last time the document was edited. You can use Word to try to extract text from any file by clicking on File -> Open and changing the filetype to All files (*.*).
