Lost XP ..CD.. Help can I... I have a key

    I need to reinstal XP but cant fine the CD.... I have my product key wrote down..can I use a friends XP Home CD as long as I have the good (my) key?

  4. Sure you can do that. You can do that with any of windows cd as long as you have a legal licence copy.

    I dont have my XP Home CD I lost it. I do have the product key...can I use his XP HOME CD and instal with my product key?

    If its exactly the same type.

    In other words, retail keys dont work on OEM, upgrade keys wont work on full versions, and visa versa.

    The CD that I lost was OEM... I called him and he said his CD was OEM.

    So I geuss it will work with my product key....Thanks

    There is also a Windows OS key recovery program which you can obtain at:

    Its very useful if you've lost your key somehow. I try to keep my key inside a CD wallet behind the CD, but no systems perfect. Since it can still get lost when you remove and replace the CD from your wallet, this program is useful to recover the key of your current OS installation. There are similar programs which can be found on Google if you use the appropriate search keywords.
     
  10. If you read the thread completly meanfire, she did not lose the product key, she has it and lost the cd. She needs to know if she can use her product key on a friends windows disc that is the same as hers.
