Lovegate Virus Question

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place but I have a question about a virus that I can't get rid of. I run windows xp and I have the lovegate virus. The problem is I run norton anti virus and I can scan all I want and not find it then. Randomly I get warnings that it is on my computer and norton is deleting it but it keeps popping up every day it is the same thing. Norton has this big long explanation on how to delete the lovegate virus. Is there any ways to get rid of it besides nortons big confusing list of things to do. Thank you for your time helping me with this problem

EDIT: didn't see the rest of your post. You evidently have been there. I had this virus some time back and the only way I got rid of it was the long, tedious way that they recommend. Be sure to back up before you begin.

 

You have to disable System Restore (or it will keep coming back), reboot, then scan and clean the virus, and only then enable SR again.

Is Norton updated to the latest virus defs?
