    Hi all,
When I am playing cs:s my fps varies from 30 to 60 but seems to spend most of its time at 30fps.:(
This is quite a low rate is it not?
I play cs:s on the reccomended settings, which I think off the top of my head are 4 x aa, 8 x something else (can never remember the names!) and high everythin else. I have tried lowering these to disabled but it doesnt seem to make much difference.

    My system spec's are
    P4 3.06ghz
    768mb 3200ddr ram
    6800gt (agp)

Is this to do with my hardware or is it something I can fix?

Its hard to work out whats slowing down an online game,it could be connection, server, amount of players online or your computer, you have a nice system I'm not familiar with css,but on coduo with 32 players online,I cant have the detail on max and theres no way I could have antianilising on,not without the game fps becoming unacceptable for close quarters shoot outs, the other one is anostropic filtering,it just makes textures sharper.

AA has the biggest performance hit, this blurrs edges of shapes to take away the jagged egdes.Memory could be an issue, you really need a gig in a modern gaming system, have you tried running a 3dmark program,3dmark2003, to check your computers performance? :)

Any game you play you will have fluctuating "fps". It all depends on what is going on in the game.

Have you installed "the lateste and greatest" drivers?

if ur getting either 30 or 60 fps that probably means that uve got v-sync enabled... turn it off and it should run over 30 and 60fps

I ran 3d mark 05 and get a shade over 4000. Should I be getting more fps with this score or is this quite a low score?
How do I turn v-sync off?

Yeah I think I'm running the latest drivers, I upgraded them about 2 weeks ago.

4000 is pretty good for 3dmark05.

    On a base AMD64 3500+ (first gen 939) with a 6600gt I can get about 3573 on 3dmark05.

4000 3d marks is really good for that system
a friend of mine runs the same card as you but with more ram and less cpu speed and he gets like 3200 3dmarks. if you just want high numbers then go with 3d mark 04 instead ;)

or get an amd and boost it to 10000+ :D

4000 is not bad.. but u should be getting around at least 4500.. to turn off v-sync u need to rightckick on the desktop, go to ur graphics card settings, then go to the Performance & Quality settings and turn off v-sync... it should boost ur fps but might lead to tearing if u got an old screen...its also possible that u have v-sync enabled in the game itself so u'll have to chech those graphics settings too...good luck. but im pretty sure that v-sync is ur problem here, even tho its not a real problem and basically just prevents tearing
